Power Distribution

Electrical infrastructure that meets modern building demands without overbuilding.

OVERVIEW

What We Do

Power distribution design is an electrical engineering service that plans how electricity flows from the utility source through switchgear, panels, and feeders to every load in your building. Advanced Structural Solutions designs power distribution systems for condos, high-rises, and commercial buildings across South Florida.

Aging buildings often have electrical systems that were designed for a fraction of the loads they carry today. Between EV chargers, modern HVAC systems, and increased unit density, many South Florida condos need electrical infrastructure upgrades that go beyond simple panel swaps.

Our electrical engineers perform load analysis, design switchgear and panel layouts, develop single-line diagrams, and coordinate with FPL on utility service requirements. We design systems that handle today's demand with capacity for tomorrow's growth.

OUR PROCESS

How We Deliver Results

01

Load Analysis & Demand Study

Calculate existing and projected electrical loads, evaluate utility service capacity, and identify where the current system falls short. This data drives every design decision.

02

System Design & Engineering

Develop single-line diagrams, panel schedules, feeder sizing, and equipment specifications. Short circuit and arc flash studies ensure the system is safe and properly coordinated.

03

Permitting & Coordination

Prepare sealed electrical drawings for building department review. Coordinate utility service upgrades with FPL and resolve conflicts with structural and mechanical systems.

04

Construction Support

Review shop drawings, respond to contractor RFIs, and perform site inspections during installation to verify the built system matches the design.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a power distribution study?

A power distribution study evaluates your building's electrical system capacity, identifies deficiencies, and recommends upgrades. It includes load calculations, equipment evaluation, and a report outlining what needs to change and why.

When does a condo building need to upgrade its electrical system?

Common triggers include adding EV charging, renovating multiple units, replacing aging switchgear, receiving deficiency notices during recertification, or experiencing recurring breaker trips and voltage issues. If your building is over 30 years old, the electrical system likely needs evaluation.

What is an arc flash study and does my building need one?

An arc flash study calculates the incident energy at each point in your electrical system where a fault could occur. It determines what protective equipment workers need when servicing panels and switchgear. OSHA and NFPA 70E require arc flash labeling on electrical equipment.

How long does a power distribution redesign take?

Design typically takes 4-8 weeks depending on building size and complexity. Permitting adds 2-6 weeks. Construction duration varies widely based on the scope of work. We provide realistic timelines during the proposal phase.
