Usama Tahir leads the firm's electrical engineering work and is a Professional Engineer licensed in Florida and in Ontario, Canada. He is also a certified Level II Thermographer in electrical applications, trained by the Infrared Training Center.
That last credential has a specific and practical consequence. Miami-Dade County's building recertification programme requires infrared thermography on electrical systems operating at 400 amperes or greater, performed by a certified technician. Advanced Structural Solutions carries out that scan in-house rather than subcontracting it, which keeps the electrical certification on the same schedule as the structural inspection.
His design work covers power distribution, fire alarm and life safety systems, lighting and lighting control, ICT and security — largely for existing building renovations and upgrades, where the constraint is usually what is already in place rather than what would be ideal. He spent seven years with Mulvey & Banani International in Toronto before joining the firm, and holds a degree in electrical engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University.
